Philippines Visitation 2023 Announced

Press Release Philippines

Archbishop Jerome Lloyd, Titular Archbishop of Selsey and head of the Old Roman apostolate internationally, will pay an extended visit to the Philippines in February 2023. This will be a historic occasion, as the Archbishop is one of the most senior members of the Old Roman Catholic Church, which traces its roots prior to the First Vatican Council and back to the 16th century underground Catholic resistance during the Protestant Reformation in northern Europe.

During his stay in the Philippines, Archbishop Lloyd will be meeting with local clergy, lay leaders, and members of the public from all walks of life. He will also be taking part in important religious ceremonies, offering spiritual guidance and sharing his knowledge and experience with the community. His visit marks a significant milestone in the relationship between the Old Roman Catholic Church and the Philippines, and the Archbishop’s presence is sure to bring a sense of curiosity and interest to the people of the country about the Old Roman apostolate.

Archbishop Lloyd will be accompanied by a team of local experts and community lay leaders to ensure that his visit is successful. During his stay, he will be visiting various mission chapels and apostolates in different regions of the Philippines. He will also have meetings with members of the Roman Catholic hierarchy, local government officials, and other religious leaders to discuss matters of mutual interest. The Archbishop has a keen interest in social action and community cohesion as exampled by his particular ministry in the UK for the homeless and relieving community tensions, e.g. combating racial hate crime.

During this visit, Archbishop Lloyd is expected to give spiritual conferences about the mission and vision of the Old Roman Catholic apostolate. He will also address social action projects, family values, and traditional Filipino customs that are important for maintaining a strong relationship between the Catholic faith and Filipino society. Archbishop Lloyd’s visit is expected to bring greater unity within Old Roman communities through religious services and other community-oriented activities.

Archbishop Lloyd returns after a visitation in 2020 to consecrate an episcopal administrator for the Old Roman apostolate in the Philippines, Bishop Joash Jaime.

S. Ambrosii Episcopi Confessoris et Ecclesiæ Doctoris
Commemoratio: Feria III infra Hebdomadam II Adventus

Today ✠Jerome met with Council officers from The Communities Equality & Third Sector Team and members of BHFA to discuss a solution to housing and ongoing support for people “without recourse to public funds” after the Government’s COVID Winter Grant Scheme funding to support vulnerable households expires in March 2022.

Firmly in the spirit of the Faith Covenant signed between the faith community and the City Council in 2018, the discussion was positive and encouraging. Though “the ask” is a big one, to support those not entitled to Benefits and statutory support for an indefinite period. Those who need help include asylum seekers waiting for determination on their cases, EU citizens awaiting a decision on their status in the UK and those initially refused “leave to remain” but appealing the decision.

The faith community is already providing direct assistance to refugees and asylum seekers with the provision of food, clothing and shelter working with the Home Office to resettle Afghani’s following the USA withdrawal from Afghanistan. Likewise the faith groups are already operating housing schemes supporting individuals and families, some on a long term basis. The charity Green Pastures is already partnered with a few churches locally to provide accomodation, while congregations provide oversight, mentoring, provisioning and emotional support.

It was suggested that Support Workers build a profile of needs for individuals, including their culture or faith background, so that they may be matched with relevant or appropriate ethnic/faith communities for support. The city’s Jewish and Muslim communities already support refugees from the Middle East and Africa, and many churches are engaged and willing to be further involved in assisting this demographic. The local charity Voices in Exile experienced in working with refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants with no recourse to public funds was identified as a potential partner in delivering support as well.

The Council Officers expressed their thanks to the members of the faith community present for their initial positive response and for their contribution already to tackling homelessness and supporting the vulnerable in the city. Faith members thanked the officers for the opportunity to meet and invitation to discuss this new problem and for including them in the research and possible provision of solutions.

Nonis Mártii.  Luna. The Seventh Day of March.  The Night of the Moon.

In monastério Fossæ Novæ, prope Tarracínam, in Campánia, sancti Thomæ Aquinátis, Confessóris et Ecclésiæ Doctóris, ex Ordine Prædicatórum, nobilitáte géneris, vitæ sanctitáte et Theologíæ sciéntia illustríssimi; quem Leo Papa Décimus tértius cæléstem Scholárum ómnium catholicárum Patrónum declarávit. In the monastery of Fossanova, near Terracina in Campania, St. Thomas Aquinas, confessor and doctor of the Church, a member of the Order of Preachers, famous for his noble family, for the sanctity of his life, and for his knowledge of theology. Pope Leo XIII declared him the heavenly patron of all Catholic schools. At Carthage, the birthday of Saints Perpetua and Felicity, martyrs. St. Augustine relates that Felicity being with child, her execution was deferred, according to the law, until after her delivery. He states that while she was in labour, she mourned, and when cast to the beasts, she rejoiced. With them suffered Satyrus, Saturninus, Revocatus, and Secundulus, the last of whom died in prison; the others were delivered to the beasts, all during the reign of Severus. The feast of Saints Perpetua and Felicity was celebrated yesterday. Cæsaréæ, in Palæstína, pássio sancti Eubúli, qui fuit sócius sancti Hadriáni, atque, bíduo post illum, laniátus a leónibus et gládio trucidátus, martyrii corónam, últimus ómnium in ea civitáte, accépit. At Caesarea in Palestine, the passion of St. Eubulus, who was a companion of St. Adrian. Two days after the latter’s death, he was mangled by the lions and put to death by the sword. He was the last of all those who received the crown of martyrdom in that city. Nicomedíæ sancti Theóphili Epíscopi, qui, ob cultum sanctárum Imáginum in exsílium pulsus, illic defúnctus est. At Nicomedia, St. Theophilus, bishop, who was driven into exile for the veneration of sacred images, and died there. Pelúsii, in Ægypto, sancti Pauli Epíscopi, qui, eándem ob causam, exsul occúbuit. At Pelusium in Egypt, St. Paul, bishop, who died in exile for the same cause. Bríxiæ sancti Gaudiósi, Epíscopi et Confessóris. At Brescia, St. Gaudiosus, bishop and confessor. In Thebáide sancti Pauli, cognoménto Símplicis. In Thebais, St. Paul, surnamed the Simple. Floréntiæ, in Etrúria, sanctæ Terésiæ Margarítæ Redi, Vírginis, Ordinis Carmelitárum Excalceatárum, vitæ puritáte ac simplicitáte admirábilis, quam Pius Papa Undécimus sanctárum Vírginum albo adscrípsit. At Florence in Etruria, St. Teresa Margaret Redi, virgin, a member of the Order of Discalced Carmelites, of such admirable purity and simplicity that Pope Pius XI solemnly enrolled her on the scroll of holy virgins.

Et álibi aliórum plurimórum sanctórum Mártyrum et Confessórum, atque sanctárum Vírginum. And elsewhere in divers places, many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins. R. Deo grátias. R. Thanks be to God.
